How to rotate a PDF
A scanner fed a page the wrong way round, and now half your document is sideways. Rotating here writes the turn into the file itself, so it stays turned for whoever opens it next — and it does it without touching a single thing your pages contain.
Steps
Open the Rotate tool
Go to Rotate PDF and choose your file. The page count appears immediately, which is what you will be naming pages against in a moment.
Turn the pages that need it
Every page shows as its own thumbnail. Click the rotate-left or rotate-right icon under a page to turn just that one — the thumbnail spins in place so you can see the result before anything is saved. A page can be clicked as many times as it needs; the fourth click brings it back to where it started.
Select several pages for the same fix
A scanner that fed a whole stack in sideways leaves many pages needing the same turn. Select all of them, or click each one, then use the rotate-left or rotate-right button above the grid to turn every selected page at once.
Rotate and download
Open the downloaded file in whatever you normally read PDFs with, and check it comes up the right way. That takes a second and confirms the rotation is in the file rather than in your reader.
The rotation is stored as an instruction on the page rather than by turning the content around, which is exactly what makes it lossless. The trade-off is that a viewer which ignores that instruction — rare, and usually something old or homegrown — will show the original orientation. If the recipient opens PDFs in something unusual, check the file there before you rely on it.
Common questions
Does rotating lose quality or make the file bigger?
Neither. Rotating changes one attribute on the page and leaves everything the page contains exactly as it was. Nothing is re-rendered, text stays selectable, and the file size barely moves.
My pages are at different angles. Will rotating all of them flatten them to the same one?
No. The turn is added to whatever each page is already at, rather than setting them all to one value. This is on purpose — scans in particular arrive with mixed angles, and turn these upright almost never means make these all identical.
I rotated in my PDF reader and it did not stay rotated. Why?
Many readers rotate the view only, as a convenience for reading, and never write anything to the file. That is why the page snaps back when you reopen it or when someone else opens it. This tool changes the file.
Why is rotating a separate tool instead of part of the editor?
Because the editor rebuilds any page you have changed, which costs some fidelity, and a rotation does not need that. Keeping it separate means a rotation stays completely lossless.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The rotation happens in your browser tab and the file never leaves your device.
