How to crop PDF pages
Cropping changes the part of a PDF page that readers and printers show. It is useful for removing scanner-bed borders, oversized white margins, headers you do not need, or empty space around an exported drawing. PDF Tool PH changes the page boundary instead of turning the page into a screenshot, so text and line art stay sharp.
Steps
Open the PDF and inspect its pages
Choose the file and move through several pages before setting the crop. A report exported by software often has identical margins, while phone scans usually shift from page to page. That difference determines whether one crop can safely be reused.
Choose one crop or a crop per page
Use One crop for every page when the layout is consistent. Choose A different crop on each page for scans or mixed page sizes. If only part of the document needs changing, enter a page range such as 1-3, 5, 8-.
Set the crop frame
Drag inside the frame to move it and drag an edge or corner to resize it. Freeform is best for ordinary margin cleanup. A4, Letter, Square and 16:9 keep a fixed shape when a receiving system or presentation needs one.
Use automatic margin removal carefully
Remove margins estimates the occupied area of the page and is a useful starting point, not a final decision. Check page numbers, signatures, faint pencil marks and notes close to an edge before applying it everywhere.
Crop, download and verify
Apply the crop and open the downloaded PDF. Confirm that every included page still shows all required content and that excluded pages remain unchanged. Keep the original because cropping can hide material you later discover you needed.
Cropping is for presentation, not secrecy. Never crop a bank number, ID detail or private note and assume it is gone. Redact the information instead, download the result, and verify that copying or reopening the file cannot reveal it.
Common questions
Does cropping permanently delete hidden content?
No. Cropping changes the visible page boundary; content outside it may remain in the file and can sometimes be recovered. Use Redact PDF when information must be removed permanently.
Will the text stay selectable?
Yes. The page is not re-rendered. Existing text, links and vector lines remain in their original form inside the new visible boundary.
Can every page have a different crop?
Yes. Select A different crop on each page, then adjust pages individually. This is usually the right option for photos and scans whose borders move.
Can I crop only certain pages?
Yes. Choose Only these pages and enter individual pages or ranges. Pages outside the range are carried into the result unchanged.
Will cropping make the PDF much smaller?
Usually not. It hides the area outside the new boundary but does not necessarily discard the underlying data. Use Compress PDF when reducing file size is the goal.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. Previewing, margin detection and writing the cropped file all happen in your browser.
