How to summarize a PDF with AI
A useful summary should shorten the reading without pretending to replace it. This tool reads the PDF text on your device, sends only a bounded text extract to an AI service, and gives you control over the length, emphasis and output language.
Steps
Choose a text-based PDF
Open AI PDF Summarizer and choose the document. The browser reads its text locally. A scan made only of page photos has no text layer, so it needs OCR before this tool can summarize it.
Check what was extracted
The tool shows how many pages and characters it could read. Free requests include up to the first 50 pages or 120,000 characters. If the document is longer, the limit is shown before anything is sent.
Choose length and style
Brief gives three to five bullets, Standard gives a few short paragraphs, and Detailed uses headings. Plain summary follows the whole document; Key takeaways prioritizes facts and next steps; Executive summary emphasizes impact, risks and decisions.
Choose English or Filipino
The summary language is independent of the document language and the site interface. Filipino is useful for reviewing an English report with family, classmates or colleagues, while English can normalize a mixed-language source.
Generate, verify and save
Generate the summary, then compare every important name, date, figure and decision with the original PDF. Copy the result or download it as a text file only after those details check out.
Do not summarize a document here if its contents must not be sent to a third-party AI service. For highly sensitive material, read it locally or redact what is private first. Even with ordinary documents, the summary is a guide to the source, not evidence of what the source says.
Common questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF file and its images stay on your device. The browser extracts text and sends only that bounded text, your selected options and a random browser identifier to a protected Cloudflare Pages Function, where Cloudflare Workers AI creates the summary.
Is the extracted text stored?
Extracted text is temporarily stored in a 30-minute Cloudflare KV session so follow-up questions do not upload it again. Generated answers may be cached for seven days. Each uncached reply still uses the Workers AI allocation.
Why can it not read my scanned PDF?
A scan is usually one picture per page, not characters a computer can select. This tool does not run OCR, so use a PDF with a searchable text layer or convert the scan with an OCR tool first.
Why is free use limited?
Every AI request has a real provider cost. The limits — five requests per hour, fifteen per day, and bounded document text — keep the tool available without an account while preventing one user or automated script from consuming the whole budget.
Can I rely on the summary for legal or financial decisions?
No. AI can omit context or state a detail incorrectly. Treat the result as a reading aid and verify important claims against the original document or a qualified professional.
